Self Esteem and Healthy Patterns of Thought
As Bobbie would say, “I’m worth it.”
We often let our doubts, fears, and insecurities build and fester for so long that the person we were destined to become is trapped and buried beneath it all. The external transformations of our campers are truly remarkable, but the internal change, the joy, the confidence, the glow, the belief that you can go, do, see, and be whoever you want to be is truly the greatest gift.
For all campers: Be your best with Bobbie
“Be Your Best with Bobbie”, is a Camp Pocono Trails life-style class for every camper who attends Camp Pocono Trails. Campers will build their self esteem by learning how to make choices that are “in their best interest” for a lifetime.
Each week, campers will learn a different strategy to enable them to return to their daily life better prepared to tackle the obstacles in school and home.
Won’t you join Bobbie in a journey towards learning and feeling the “best”; not only physically, but really knowing you can “Be Your Best” forever and ever.
“With the guidance and support of Camp Pocono Trails, not just during the summer, but during the year, I learned how to take control of my eating and how to fuel my body to excel in sports. My goal is to continue working hard, training hard and to one day play baseball in college. Thanks to Camp Pocono Trails I know that I can do anything, and as Bobbie would say, ‘I’m worth it.’”
New optional program: Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Camp Pocono Trails is excited to announce our new optional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) programming at camp this summer. CBT is an evidence based treatment method in which campers will actively work to understand and uncover unhealthy patterns of thought and how they may be causing self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. In addressing these patterns, constructive ways of thinking are developed that will produce healthier behaviors and beliefs. The core principles of CBT are identifying negative or false beliefs and testing or restructuring them.
CBT at Camp Pocono Trails is designed for campers aged 13 and up who are looking to add behavioral and planning skills to their toolbox to increase their chance of success after camp.
CBT at Camp Pocono Trails will address 3 major areas:
- Mastering Our Thoughts: Campers will learn to identify some of the common thoughts that interfere with long term success, and then learn how to create better and more effective thinking patterns. Our thoughts are not always our friends, and it takes practice to identify thinking patterns that get in our way.
- Cope Ahead Skills: After camp, situations will come up that have the potential to thwart success. We will provide concrete skills to navigate those events, holidays, school cafeterias, etc. so the camper feels equipped to navigate those situations.
- After Care Plan & Relapse Prevention: Campers will work so hard this summer, and keeping up the momentum and feelings of success after camp takes planning. Campers will develop an after care plan including goal setting with an action plan, and creating a take home toolkit to reference.
CBT at Camp Pocono Trails is designed and supervised by Molly Carmel, LCSW the founder and director of The Beacon Program in New York City. Molly is among the leading behaviorists in the field of obesity. Having been a camper at Tony’s very first camp in 1992, she is incredibly excited to come full circle and join the Camp Pocono Trails team.
This is an optional program we are offering to our campers who are 13 years of age or older. The sessions will consist of small group meetings for 1 hour per week with five campers per session and will include take home materials for each camper. It will not interfere with the campers nutrition or cooking classes. Classes will be separated by age and gender and will start on July 2nd. Campers can enroll in the program, regardless of how long their length of stay at camp but must enroll for their full length of stay. Molly and The Beacon Program will also be providing all CPT campers and their parents an aftercare informational packet to help make the post-camp transition as successful as possible.
