The Camp Pocono Trails nutrition program is designed to give campers the ability to lose weight, while providing the tools to keep it off. Our program is a sensible meal plan, based on the government’s “My Plate” guidelines and the exchange list for meal planning. We focus on portion control, balancing all food groups and proper nutritional principles. Our meal plan offers a full vegetarian menu and an option for kosher foods as well.
Our meal plan averages approximately 1700-1800 calories a day and supplies all the vitamins and minerals that your child will need. Your child will enjoy 3 balanced meals and 2 snacks daily while still enjoying many of their favorite foods. An example of a lunch meal might include pita pizza, unlimited salad bar, milk, fruit, and tasty soup.
Each child will attend nutrition and cooking classes weekly, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to continue with their lifestyle change and weight loss success. The nutrition classes cover topics such as healthy snacking, reading food labels, dining out and behavior modification. In cooking class, the kids will take an active role in learning to prepare tasty, low-fat recipes that can be incorporated into their family’s busy lives at home.
“What happens if my child is a picky eater or has food allergies?” Our menu is designed to offer daily meal substitutions and the Dietitians and Nutritionists on staff are there to work with any food allergies that may need accommodating.
Safe Weight Loss
The health of our campers is paramount. Therefore, no pills, drugs or food supplements are ever used. Our program is designed to safely produce an average weight loss of 2 to 4 lbs. per week and the campers are weighed individually, in private, on a weekly basis. The ultimate goal is for youngsters to obtain and retain the knowledge and information they need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen upon their return to the camp-free world. While weight loss is an obvious achievement, the Camp Pocono Trails focus is on changing lifestyle habits, improving health, and having fun in order to maintain results.
After camp, our follow-up program for campers is excellent. From the day your child leaves camp, he or she is given continued guidance to continue with their success. All of our campers leave camp with an “At Home” booklet filled with a broad foundation of nutrition knowledge, sample menus, and great recipes to use at home. We offer nutrition classes and personal training in various areas surrounding the home of Camp Pocono Trails and on-going follow-up via phone consults or e-mail. Wherever you are in the country, you and your child have access to having your questions answered and all the support you need!
