Weight Loss Camp Serving South Dakota Teens
Fat Camp vs. Weight Loss Camp
A “fat camp” in South Dakota describes a summer camp experience for adolescents, teens, and young adults striving to get in shape and lose weight for good. Campers in attendance may be struggling with obesity, body image issues, or self-esteem concerns due to their weight. We chose to use the phrase “weight loss camp” over “fat camp” at Camp Pocono Trails. Calling a child “fat” can be hurtful and make the child rebel against the program. While we do use the term “fat camp” on this page, we are much better described as a weight loss program. Our program strives to be 100% positive in all aspects.
Our fat camp gets a lot of campers from South Dakota. So many in fact that we made this page just for you! South Dakota families find a home away from home at Camp Pocono Trails. Without a doubt your child will find other campers from South Dakota and make fast friends. We accommodate campers from South Dakota every year.
Are Fat Camps Evidence-Based?
Fat Camps are weight loss camps specifically designed for the physical and emotional support of adolescents, teens, and young adults. At Camp Pocono Trails we provide a structured environment for kits to have corrective experiences so that they can experience weight loss success. When Can I Go to a Fat Camp?
It’s important to register as soon as possible to guarantee your spot. Every summer we have 700 or more campers in attendance. It is truly first-come, first served. We can’t possibly make room for everyone who wants to attend, but we will try to accommodate your family’s needs.
Most weight loss camps for kids and teens are offered during the summer months when students are not at school. Programs typically run for two-week or longer sessions, and Camp Pocono Trails allows participants to stay for multiple sessions in a row. The longer campers stay in a program, the more weight they are likely to lose.
We do create custom sessions for families with a busy summer schedule. We can add on days, or start your session on a different day than listed. However, if you wish to create a custom session you need to contact our camp admissions office ASAP.
Many parents ask, “What is the ideal session length?” This is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Many younger campers go for a shorter amount of time while older campers tend to stay for many weeks or even a full summer.
Sometimes parents sign up for an early session then extend the session length for the child once they see substantial return on their investment. Either way, it is recommended that you submit your initial deposit and register for the earliest possible time to ensure your child gets in the best physical and mental shape of their life this summer.
Fat Camp for Weight Loss Success
When campers leave home for fat camp they are challenged with the anxieties of separating from home. Whether they go to summer camp for a week or three months campers experience the same insecurities. Everyone gets homesick and that is normal. However, something life changing happens for teens when they go to summer camp. They meet other teens from different places and discover that they are not too different after all. They make friends, have fun, and discover that summer camp is a great place. The confidence they gain from separating from home is incredible.
Camp Pocono Trails is a supportive, inclusive environment. We encourage participation and foster friendships. Learning to separate from home is a life skill. Summer camp is the type of experience that helps to prepare your teen for the eventual day when they must go off to college or move out of the house on their own. Support your teen’s healthy growth and send them to Camp Pocono Trails. Help your South Dakota teen see that overcoming small pains results in huge gains!
