Fat Camp Serving North Carolina Teens Adds Cell Phone Overuse Track
While located in PA, we serve NC teens with our fat camp. At Camp Pocono Trails we have seen that technology overuse is a recurring issue for teens that come to our camp to focus on their new image journey. This generation of teens is immersed in technology unlike any other generation before them. Typically most campers that overuse technology to the point that it becomes detrimental to their home life, school success, and social growth realize that they do not have a game plan on how to get control.
Camp Pocono Trails can help your teen break the habit of overusing technology. This is why you should intervene and send them to our summer camp. According to Business Insider, 2017 over 53% of college-age campers across the nation use technology to procrastinate instead of doing academic work. A startling statistic is that 30% of freshman in U.S. colleges are dropping out due to an inability to handle unstructured time. Sadly, 51% of lower-skilled men in their 20’s live with their parent or close relative and report spending 75% of their leisure time playing video games.
What is a Fat Camp?
A “fat camp” is the common name for an all-inclusive weight loss summer camp for kids, teens, and young adults. At Camp Pocono Trails we prefer the term “weight loss camp” as it’s a more accepting term that better describes the end result our campers are seeking. While as parents we might think we are being helpful telling our child what is wrong with them, it’s rarely helpful to hurt their feelings. Probably, your child already knows if they are overweight. They are more likely to get on board with a program that is termed a “weight loss camp” versus a “fat camp” in North Carolina.
At our fat camp for North Carolina campers, we get so many campers from North Carolina that we decided to create this page just for parents, teens, and young adults from North Carolina. Many parents drive to Camp Pocono Trails, and we can also pick up your child from major airports in our area. But you can rest assured that we get many campers from North Carolina that your child will build friendships and feel right at home.
Are Fat Camps Evidence-Based?
Fat Camps are weight loss camps specifically designed for the physical and emotional support of adolescents, teens, and young adults. At Camp Pocono Trails we provide a structured environment for kits to have corrective experiences so that they can experience weight loss success. Losing weight is difficult, and we provide the structure needed for proper education, nutrition, fitness, culinary training, and motivation to live at a healthy weight. The long-term results of Camp Pocono Trails are astounding. Our weight loss camp is so effective because we hire the top staff in their respective fields from across the globe. Some campers may struggle with exercising, while others may struggle with eating right or developing the psychological motivation to change. At Camp Pocono Trails we have staff to focus on all of these areas.

When Can I Go to a Fat Camp?
It’s important to register as soon as possible to guarantee your spot. Every summer we have 700 or more campers in attendance. It is truly first-come, first served. We can’t possibly make room for everyone who wants to attend, but we will try to accommodate your family’s needs.
Most weight loss camps for kids and teens are offered during the summer months when students are not at school. Programs typically run for two-week or longer sessions, and Camp Pocono Trails allows participants to stay for multiple sessions in a row. The longer campers stay in a program, the more weight they are likely to lose.
We do create custom sessions for families with a busy summer schedule. We can add on days, or start your session on a different day than listed. However, if you wish to create a custom session you need to contact our camp admissions office ASAP.
Many parents ask, “What is the ideal session length?” This is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Many younger campers go for a shorter amount of time while older campers tend to stay for many weeks or even a full summer.
Sometimes parents sign up for an early session then extend the session length for the child once they see substantial return on their investment. Either way, it is recommended that you submit your initial deposit and register for the earliest possible time to ensure your child gets in the best physical and mental shape of their life this summer.
When campers leave home for summer camp they are challenged with the anxieties of separating from home. Whether they go to summer camp for a week or three months campers experience the same insecurities. Everyone gets homesick and that is normal. However, something life changing happens for teens when they go to summer camp. They meet other teens from different places and discover that they are not too different after all. They make friends, have fun, and discover that summer camp is a great place. The confidence they gain from separating from home is incredible.
Camp Pocono Trails is a supportive, inclusive environment. We encourage participation and foster friendships. Learning to separate from home is a life skill. Summer camp is the type of experience that helps to prepare your teen for the eventual day when they must go off to college or move out of the house on their own. Support your teen’s healthy growth and send them to Camp Pocono Trails. Help your North Carolina teen see that overcoming small pains results in huge gains!
