Best Fat Camp: Louisiana Teens Travel to Camp Pocono Trails!

Fat Camp vs. Weight Loss Camp

A “fat camp” in Louisiana describes a summer camp experience for adolescents, teens, and young adults striving to get in shape and lose weight for good. Campers in attendance may be struggling with obesity, body image issues, or self-esteem concerns due to their weight. We chose to use the phrase “weight loss camp” over “fat camp” at Camp Pocono Trails. Calling a child “fat” can be hurtful and make the child rebel against the program. While we do use the term “fat camp” on this page, we are much better described as a weight loss program. Our program strives to be 100% positive in all aspects.

Our fat camp gets a lot of campers from Louisiana. So many in fact that we made this page just for you! Louisiana families find a home away from home at Camp Pocono Trails. Without a doubt your child will find other campers from Louisiana and make fast friends. We accommodate campers from Louisiana every year.

Do Fat Camps Work?

Fat camps work to help kids lose weight and keep it off through a combination of fitness, nutrition, and education. At Camp Pocono Trails, we are proven to be effective not just for losing weight during the weeks at camp, but also for helping the weight stay off upon returning home. If you check out our Transformations page you can see the astounding results we have produced. Education at Kids Weight Loss Camp

Along with building healthy activities, children need to have insight into what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. At our weight loss camp for kids, we teach young people at a developmentally appropriate level how to make better food choices.

Additionally, we also offer a Technology Track where adolescents and teens can learn how to manage their cell phone, video game, and computer usage. Today more than ever we are seeing vast changes in our environment which result in often unforeseen consequences. The difference in food quality and portion sizes available is one example of this seismic change.

The availability of 24-hour, seven-day-a-week TV and internet availability is another example. As parents, our job is to prepare our child for adulthood as best as possible. This means taking steps to ensure our child can manage the distractions and temptations offered by today’s environment.

Camp Pocono Trails Fat Camp For Louisiana Teens

How Much do I Exercise at a Fat Camp?

Fat Camps for kids and teens are not designed to be boot camps; campers will be working out, but not overworked. Physical activity is an important part of the weight loss process. Campers need to burn more calories than they take in for weight loss to be effective. For campers to keep the weight off, they need to find activities they will want to continue upon their transition back home.

Camp Pocono Trails seeks to make exercise fun through activities, sporting events, competitions, and games. Campers may not even know they are exercising when attending Camp Pocono Trails. This is really the key for long term weight loss. Campers must find an enjoyable activity they embrace and will continue in the long term. In this respect, they must find a workout activity they don’t really consider a “workout.”

Often, this is a sport or game they can play with a group. Having the group influence helps keep campers motivated and participating in the sport or game of their choice.

It can be difficult finding a sport or game that is offered back home. This is why we try a wide variety of activities at camp. Sometimes, a solitary activity like jogging or yoga is the best match for campers that are limited by geography or other environmental factors.

Your child can be at ease about any exercise concerns at fat camp. We encourage each-other to bring out our best and work hard, but we would never force a camp into doing something in which they are uncomfortable. Surprisingly, almost all campers participate in the Camp Pocono Trails 5K race at the end of camp.

Any camp to learn healthy skills will incorporate a wide range of professionals including therapists, personal trainers, nurses, nutritionists and more. Camp Pocono Trails attracts the best-of-the-best in camp counselors, as we offer the most attractive benefits package in the industry. All our staff members are experienced, and handpicked.

Our Arts Program Is a Confidence Booster for Louisiana Teens’

Teens flock north during the summer to Camp Pocono Trails because they want to make self-improvements and lose weight. Often, teens with weight issues carry a baggage of insecurities and find speaking and face-to-face social situations awkward and stressful.

This is why many campers choose activities from the Visual Arts Program. This program is taught by talented qualified instructors. Campers are given multiple opportunities to use their creativity in theater, woodworking, arts & crafts, painting, drawing, and so much more.

Today, a quality health camp for kids will also include time away from electronics and teaching young people the skills to manage their downtime. Ask anyone with a child today and they will tell you that electronics like cell phones, computers, and tablets are a constant distraction. As electronics become more a part of our daily routine, face to face time socializing or engaging in rigorous physical activity is a behavior we see less and less of.

It’s critical today that parents show their child how to live in a healthy way. Your child’s habits they start at home will continue on through college or whatever the next step is towards independence.

Spending too little time exercising, too much time overeating, or not enough time socializing due to video games or cell phones can create habits that extend well into adulthood. These habits can wreak havoc on your child’s long-term health.
